Madrid, Spain
The colors of Madrid for me were fiery reds and warm colors. From the hanging cured Serrano hams to the ruby red rioja's swirling around in my over sized wine glass. The red tiles and brick walkways. Even the flamenco dancers looked feisty in scarlet. When I remember Madrid I remember in red. {painted silk with wax resist}
Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona is full of life and full of color. I could spend every day of my life in Barcelona and still find something new and beautiful design around the city that I'd never seen before. The stunning stained glass visions from Gaudi's mind. The thin lines of neon thongs between chiseled tan buns on the beach. The deliciously colorful pinxtos just waiting to be chosen. Color is everywhere and my eyes ate it up. {painted silk with wax resist}
Bilbao, Spain
Gehry's work was my favorite piece at the Guggenheim. I love the lines, textures and the way images, faces and colors reflect off the structure changing the color of building every second. Perfection. {dyed cotton with wax resist}
Elciego, Spain
My favorite architect (Gehry) and favorite rioja (Marqués De Riscal) have paired the old vine wine making charm from 1860 with a modern shangri la retreat. Amongst the vines a beacon of purple and gold-colored titanium flow with silver stainless steel. The design mirrors the wine's iconic gold metal cage, gold and silver label and rich colors of the wine. The wine tasted ah-maizing! And yes the food was suburb! I love it here and I will be back. {painted silk with wax resist}
San Sebastian, Spain
Pinxtos crawls, plenty of pimientos, mas rioja, Txakoli (a fizzy white wine), impromptu singing by old men patrons and oh yeah, the beautiful beach. San Sebastian was incredible. The mushrooms pinxtos and chorizo were out of this world as were the colors of this old world city, especially at night when all of the old buildings are lit from below and the people hit the quaint town. {painted silk with sharpie ink}
